Summary

The presentation addresses the challenges in diagnosing Lyme disease, caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, particularly focusing on underdiagnosis in the acute phase and overdiagnosis in late disease. A semi-structured literature review of 68 papers reveals that early phases often go undetected due to poor serological testing sensitivity, while late-stage cases frequently misdiagnose patients, leading to unnecessary treatments. Recommendations include improving clinical decision-making, refining serological tests, and exploring new diagnostic technologies and biomarkers.
