Summary

The analysis investigates the impact of switching from modified-release (MR) to immediate-release (IR) oral morphine on opioid consumption following caesarean sections. The study, conducted at a single centre, reveals a significant reduction in opioid use among elective patients (39mg decrease, p<0.05), while no significant change was observed in emergency cases. The findings support the safety of the prescribing guideline change, advocating for flexible dosing with IR morphine. Future research is suggested to include multicentre studies and validated pain assessment tools.
